|
|
Lyon, France - March 2006
genOway announces general agreements with the European Institute of Oncology (EIO) and the FIRC Institute on Molecular Oncology (IFOM). Thanks to these agreements, researchers of these renowned Institutes will benefit from genOway's expertise in transgenesis, enabling researchers in oncology to concentrate their efforts on their core competence and speed up their research.
Historically, cancer research has benefited immensely from the predictability provided by animal models for the understanding of cancer phenomena and the human reaction to pharmacological treatment. The presence of over 10 000 publications confirm this synergy (source PubMed).
Located in Milano- Italy, the EIO and IFOM are European institutions dedicated to cancer research with an international renown for the quality of their studies. These two institutions are now expanded and fused in the IFOM-IEO Campus and their scientific activities integrated.
"IEO and genOway collaboration started some years ago while we were looking for collaborative and highly professional technologists for the development of our knock-out mouse models. We have been impressed by their competence and motivation, by the solutions they found to solve our problems and by the flexibility in discussing every milestone of the project at any time. We are more than happy to continue and improve our collaboration with genOway." said Prof. Pier Giuseppe PELICCI Chairman of the Department of Experimental Oncology, IEO and Scientific Director of SEMM.
"genOway is a leading company in the field of genetically modified mouse and rat models. Its technology platform is impressive, comprising technologies classically used in trangenesis and more innovative approaches, like conditional and inducible systems. We experienced their methodology by producing few lines of transgenic animals. Design and development of the project were customized to our specific requests, there was no waiting list and the frequent reports sent by the project leader allow our researchers to follow the entire process with the possibility of a fine-tuning or eventually a re-direction of the project. We would totally recommend genOway and we are looking forward to a long relationship" said Prof. Pier Paolo DI FIORE Scientific Director of IFOM.
Theses agreements cover the development and generation of genetically modified mouse models using genOway's proprietary technology platform. genOway will provide researchers from these institutions with a personalised service, aimed at developing animal models to meet their specific needs and goals in cancer research. Since its creation, genOway has amassed significant expertise in developing specific mouse models within this therapeutical area, and from successful past collaboration with renowned researchers in this field.
"Mouse knock-out technology is an important step in cancer research, it provides relevant answers to scientific questions but it is time-consuming and difficult to set up. The Department of Experimental Oncology decided to take advantage of genOway's expertise in this field. We generated several lines of genetically modified mice together. Beside the technological success within the expected time-frame, we appreciated the frequent and fruitful exchange of ideas, the collaborative attitude of the project leaders, as well as of the consultants and directors of study. You feel that the company is truly at your service but that you can constantly re-discuss the direction of the project on the basis of the very last result you have achieved." said Dr. Luisa LANFRANCONE, group Leader at the IFOM-IEO Campus.
"The EIO and IFOM are leading research institutions dedicated to research in the field of oncology. Their highly-qualified scientists and innovative programs have led to significant advances in our understanding of the molecular basis of cancer and have contributed to the development of novel anticancer therapies. genOway has always been proud of its collaboration with these institutes and we believe that these global agreements are a confirmation of mutual confidence and will make our collaboration even more successful. The trust of these outstanding researchers in genOway's expertise is a real honour" concluded Alexandre Fraichard, CEO of genOway.

About SFB 575
www.uni-duesseldorf.de/sfb575
The aim of this Collaborative Research Centre is to study normal liver function and the molecular mechanisms leading to clinical symptoms associated with liver injury. Based on the results the rational for new therapeutical strategies allowing more efficient treatment of liver diseases will be provided. A special focus is the investigation of intra- and intercellular communication mechanisms. This is highly topical because of increasing evidence that a dysregulation of signal transduction accounts for many diseases.
