GAST encodes gastrin, a hormone primarily expressed in G cells of the gastric epithelium, where it regulates gastric acid secretion and gastrointestinal function. Its expression is highly specific to the stomach and plays a key role in digestive physiology. The Gast-CreERT2 mouse line enables inducible, temporal control of genetic recombination in gastrin-expressing gastric epithelial cells following tamoxifen administration. This model is well suited for studying gastric biology, epithelial cell function, and gastrointestinal diseases.
