HDC encodes histidine decarboxylase, the enzyme responsible for histamine synthesis. It is expressed in histaminergic neurons and immune cells such as mast cells, where it plays a central role in neurotransmission and inflammatory responses. The Hdc-CreERT2 mouse line enables inducible, temporal control of genetic recombination in Hdc-expressing cells following tamoxifen administration. This model is suitable for studying histamine signaling, neuroimmune interactions, and inflammatory diseases.
