Scientific relevance & applications

ITIH1 encodes inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 1, a protein predominantly expressed in the liver and involved in extracellular matrix stabilization and inflammatory processes. Its expression is associated with hepatic function and systemic metabolic regulation. The Itih1-CreERT2 mouse line enables inducible, temporal control of genetic recombination in Itih1-expressing hepatic cells following tamoxifen administration. This model is suitable for conditional gene function studies, lineage tracing, and cell-type-specific genetic manipulation in liver biology, metabolism, and inflammation research.
